Our 10 Favorite Dresses From The 2014 Oscar Parties

Sure, the Oscars are glamorous and esteemed and a major cultural moment, but I think I'd rather attend an Oscars after-party than the ceremony itself. The casual atmosphere of the post-show bashes is way less "I'd like to thank the Academy" and way more (to quote Matthew McConaughey), "Alright, alright, alriiiiight." We saw some pretty amazing looks on the red carpet last night for sure, but the parties brought out some new fashions that totally reflected the more fun phase of the evening. Check out some of our faves:

LUPITA NYONG'O IN MIU MIU

After winning big last night, Lupita swapped out her princess Prada gown for this flirty Miu Miu dress. The sea foam fringe and buckled straps reminded us of a day spent at the beach—the perfect image for a first-time Oscar winner. Lupita held onto the same jewelry she wore at the ceremony and clutched her new statuette for the entire night (totally what I would do, too).

LADY GAGA IN VERSACE

Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga shocked us all when she showed up to the Academy Awards in a classic Old Hollywood gown, as opposed to, say, a meat dress or suit of armor made out of melted Oscar statues. She kept things equally glamorous for her after-party circuit, wearing a glittery white dress with cutouts and metallic adornments from Versace. The way that baby hugs Gaga's curves is making me want to do 92,738,465 sit-ups as soon as possible.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE IN TOM FORD

Jennifer Lawrence

Wait... Jennifer Lawrence wore something NOT designed by Dior??? It's true. To get her party on, J-Law changed out of her timeless Dior dress and slipped into something a little more risque. The Tom Ford mini she opted for was all about the mirrored details and a hefty amount of sheer mesh covering. Good thing Jennifer is a flawless human, because this hardcore dress proooobably doesn't look this good on just anyone.

KATE HUDSON IN ZUHAIR MURAD

Kate Hudson is officially back on our fashion radar. After wowing us in Versace at the Oscars ceremony, she donned a couture Zuhair Murad dress that was somehow just as sultry and beautiful. Kate stuck with the night's big trend of sheer fabric and illusion details, but edged it up with intricate black beading, making for one of the coolest necklines we've ever seen.

SELENA GOMEZ IN EMILIO PUCCI

Selena Gomez sadly didn't get to attend the actual Oscars, so she took a "go big or go home" stance when it came to her after party attire. Her Pucci dress was seriously the stuff fashion dreams are made of. The sheer skirt (there's that trend again!), halter top, and beadwork from top to bottom made this one of our favorite Selena looks to date (one of Bieber's, too, apparently).

RITA ORA IN MIU MIU

Did Lady Gaga and Rita Ora go shopping at the same rock-star bridal shop? If so, can we tag along next time? Rita was an absolute bombshell in her ivory lace Miu Miu dress last night. Everything about this piece is lovely and flattering: the column skirt, peplum waist, crystal-studded neckline. And then there's the fact that Rita Ora is a smoldering goddess who can practically do no wrong. That certainly doesn't hurt.

KARLIE KLOSS

Karlie Kloss

Holy cutouts! Showing strategic patches of skin was definitely a big trend last night, but no one was quite as shockingly daring as Karlie Kloss. Her plunging neckline was a whole lotta sexy on its own, but then she turned around and WHOA. If the back of her dress had moved an inch to either side, we would have had to stick a huge CENSORED sticker over her derriere. Karlie got it, so Karlie flaunt it.

VANESSA HUDGENS IN PHILOSOPHY DI NATALIE RATABESI

Vanessa Hudgens continued the metallic vibe Emma Watson started at the Oscars, and we bow down to her for that. Her gold Philosophy mermaid gown was magpie bait in all the right ways, and we have to draw special attention to her accessorizing skills.

She wore a dark, angular ring and bracelets on one hand and jeweled snake rings on the other (and sharp gold nails on BOTH hands). If Vanessa is trying to create a new Disney villain, we totally support her decision.

SKY FERREIRA

I'm thinking about starting a petition to request that Sky Ferreira wear red every day for the rest of her life. Exhibit A: her dress and lips at last night's Vanity Fair party. The chiffon details on the neckline and back of the gown made Sky look soft and pretty, but the oh-so-subtle sheer tummy and side cleavage made sure she didn't look twee and sweet.

EMMY ROSSUM IN MONIQUE LHUILLIER

Wrapping up the nude-beaded trend is Emmy Rossum, looking absolutely stunning in Monique Lhuillier. The sheer sleeves, sweetheart neckline, and full skirt were classy to the nth degree. The look gave us of major Audrey Hepburn vibes. (Fun fact: Emmy once portrayed Audrey in a made-for-TV biopic. Coincidence?) The high-low hemline not only made the dress slightly more unique, but it also placed those amazing shoes (also Monique Lhuillier) in plain sight. Those bad boys are too good to keep hidden under layers of fabric.
